I allocated half of it for virtual hard disk file, and used the other half to get the downloaded files out of the virtual machine. What happening was, virtual Windows was downloading the files from OneDrive to its local storage, which actually was on external harddrive, then copying the downloaded files to an external harddrive, which was actually the same external drive. All in the virtual machine running Windows, using File Explorer. Then, in the virtual machine running Windows, I copied the files that were on the OneDrive, and pasted them on external harddrive. Though it required some playing with the settings, if I recall correctly. The external hard disk was also visible in the File Explorer as external storage. I was able to see my files stored on OneDrive now via File Explorer. I installed Windows on the virtual machine and logged in with my Microsoft account. During configuration of the virtual machine, I chose location for the virtual hard disk file on an external hard drive. I set up a virtual machine in Virtualbox. Let me try to describe how I did it in more detail.
